Instructor Highlight: Sam Farkas

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are having a nice day. Spring is teasing, but it looks like we will be in the current weather mode for another week or so. We’re close!

I know when most of you come to a lesson, you may meet or see another instructor from time to time, so I have decided to feature one of our instructors every once in a while. For about 20 years, I was the sole instructor at the studio. For this entire time, I didn’t have a website or advertise. All of my students came from referrals, and I was staying plenty busy. I was also reaching a point where I couldn’t take on new students.

After a few months of this crazy schedule, I decided it was time to bring on another instructor. And then, I also decided not to be such a Luddite and build a website. Three weeks after the launch of the new site, I was slammed! I was overwhelmed by the response. I didn’t expect things to blow up so quickly. I had played several gigs with Sam Farkas, and known him for several years, and he was the first person I thought of to bring on board. Sam is a versatile guitar player and a serious music and guitar student.

It was, and is, important to me to have instructors that are professional musicians, have a heart for teaching, and really show up for their students. Sam is a great fit for students of all ages and abilities, and I’m happy to have him on board.

Sam Farkas is originally from Western Pennsylvania. In 2001, Sam moved to Murfreesboro, TN, to study music and audio engineering. While attending Middle Tennessee State University, Sam experienced many formative moments, including regular opportunities to hear jazz guitarists Rolland Gresham and Jack Pearson and to study with jazz guitarist Paul Abrams.

After school, Sam moved to Nashville and began working as a musician, accompanying artists such as Space Capone, Jeremy Lister, Caitlin Rose, Leigh Nash, and more. He has performed at music festivals such as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Hangout, and Music City Roots, as well as leading his own groups with a focus on improvisational music.

In 2016, Sam began teaching at Green Hills Guitar Studio and has since been lucky enough to introduce the joy of music to hundreds of students through guitar, ukulele, banjo, and piano lessons. When he is not teaching, recording, or performing, he spends his time reading, running, and hiking.
