Know Your Neighborhoods: Major & Minor Triads on Strings 32&1.

Welcome to Know Your Neighborhoods: Major & Minor Triads

If this is your first time through the course, begin with Lesson 1 below. If you’ve been here before, pick up where you left off with the next incomplete lesson.

How to Use This Course

Work through the lessons in order. This course is built around learning major and minor triads on strings 3, 2, and 1, then connecting those shapes into usable fretboard neighborhoods.

Each lesson focuses on a specific part of the map: root position, first inversion, second inversion, and how those nearby shapes connect inside a key. Use the PDFs, diagrams, MP3s, and backing tracks as you go. The goal is not just to memorize shapes, but to understand where you are on the neck and what lives nearby.

Practice Tips

Start slowly and name what you’re playing: the chord, the quality, the inversion, and the root. Pay attention to how each triad connects to the next shape in the same neighborhood.

Once the shapes feel comfortable, practice them with the backing tracks. Use both the 4/4 and 12/8 tracks so you can hear how the same chord shapes feel in different grooves.

Let’s get into it!
