Welcome to Learning the Guitar Neck: Power Chords, Part 1
This course uses one of the most practical guitar techniques, the power chord, to help you become more comfortable navigating the fretboard.
If this is your first time through the course, begin with Lesson 1 and complete each lesson in order. Returning students can continue with the next lesson they haven’t finished.
How to Use This Course
As you work through the lessons, focus on understanding where each power chord is located on the neck instead of simply memorizing finger positions. Pay attention to the root notes and notice how the same shape can be moved to create different chords.
Take your time with each exercise and spend a few extra minutes applying the concepts on your own. The more familiar you become with the locations of the notes, the more natural the fretboard will begin to feel.
Each lesson builds on the previous one, so completing the course in sequence will give you the strongest foundation.
Practice Tips
Practice each power chord shape slowly and say the chord name aloud as you play it. This simple habit reinforces the relationship between the shape and its location on the neck.
Once you’re comfortable with an exercise, try moving the same shape to different frets without looking at the lesson. The goal is to recognize the neck as a connected system rather than a series of isolated positions.
Let’s get into it!
